Subject: Email Phishing Attempts

IMPORTANT! – HIGH PRIORITY !

Good morning all,

Recently, there have been numerous FAKE emails sent to GPISD staff members requesting your username and password. The emails are phishing emailsDo not respond to the messages. Simply delete them. If you do respond or fill out the form, you have likely compromised your account. Once compromised, the attacker may try to compromise your financial or other personal information. In addition, your account will be used to generate these same FAKE emails and get the ENTIRE GPISD system placed onto email blocklists. Once on the block lists, all GPISD staff members will have difficulty corresponding with community members, parents, and peers.

Our system does block a HUGE majority of the inappropriate email. However, some still get through. Some simple rules.

1)      If you receive an email from someone you do not know asking for ANY personal information, especially your username and password. Simply, delete the message. This includes asking you to complete a form with your username and password.

2)      If you receive an email from a peer, parent, community member or even Technology Support Staff that is “odd or unusual”, you can

a.       Contact the person to verify before taking any action.

b.      Contact the GPISD Technology Helpdesk (helpdesk@gpisd.org or 972.237.5413) or your campus IMS/IMA to get assistance. We are more than happy to help if you are unsure what to do.

It is up to you to be vigilant. Thank you for your help.

Jason Bowerman

Director of Technology
